Mongarda
Mongarda’s patriarch, Bruno Tormena, got his start in the vineyards as a young man, working alongside of his grandfather in the family’s vineyards in the village of Mongarda. In 1978, when Bruno decided to dedicate himself to winemaking, he named his estate after the village where he everything began. Bruno’s son, Martino, took over in 2011. Since then Martino, a graduate of the enology school in Conegliano, has continuously elevated his family’s commitment to the land and the quality of their wines.
Located in the heart of the Valdobbiadene-Conegliano Prosecco Superiore zone, the Mongarda estate spans 3 hectares of woods and 10 hectares of vines, across the villages of Col San Martino, Farra di Soligo, Miane, and Valdobbiadene. The vineyards are striking - dramatic slopes, covered with old vines (dating back to the 1950s), atop nutrient-poor, rocky soils. These conditions are directly responsible for producing the striking Proseccos that define Mongarda. In keeping with regional practices, the dominant varietal planted is Glera. However, in a nod to tradition, the Tormena family has also preserved local autochtonous varietals of Perera, Verdiso, Bianchetta, and Boschera.
Intervention is minimal in the vineyards as well as in the cellar – where a reverence for nature and tradition reign supreme.
