Today we conclude the series ¨Of Fathers and Sons¨ with the winery Ronchi di Cialla. Brothers Pier Paolo and Ivan Rapuzzi learned all that they know of wine from the parents, Paolo and Dina. From a young age, the boys spent many hours in the vineyards with their father, Paolo. Paolo taught his sons how to carefully prune the Schioppettino vines that had required years of painstaking work to gather and replant, how to plant and care for a vineyard so as to not disrupt the delicate ecosystem and how to notice the nuances in soil from one parcel to the next. In the cellar, Paolo taught the boys how to make wine, from the most common elemental techniques to those incredibly specific to the hills of Cialla: such as how to dry the Picolit grapes to produce the emblematic sweet wine Picolit di Cialla. Today Pier Paolo and Ivan continue in the tradition of their parents - cultivating only varietals that are indigenous to Friuli, respecting the land and producing wines that are in accordance with the history of the region. The impressive wine library that they steward was begun decades ago by their parents and reinforces the importance of building a legacy for the next generation. It is precisely for such notable integrity and quality that the wines of Ronchi di Cialla are official wines of the Italian State, used in formal dinners hosted by the Prime Minister when receiving leaders from other countries.
